Accommodation: Many accommodation facilities and campsites are available of varying standards around the slopes of the mountain. On the mountain, accommodation is available in nine cottages and huts operated by the Department of Forestry and another fully furnished cottage operated by the CCAP. Access: The mountain does not have road access up to the plateau level. There are about 15 paths that can be hiked from 600m-800m a.s.l. up to plateau level to the mountain huts above 2,000m a.s.l. within 3 hours. There is a 700m aerodrome at 2,100m a.s.l. on Lichenya Plateau suitable for a light aircraft. Personal Needs: There is a need for hikers to be fully equipped and provisioned for their mountain hike. Most huts are basic but adequate for overnight stay Guides & Porters: Should visitors require assistance to hike and climb up the mountain or give specific knowledge of the ecology, certified guides are available at a reasonable daily rate. Additionally, porters are available at each path base to assist in carrying loads of not more than 20kg up and across the mountain. Mountain Club of Malawi: If you are likely to be a regular hiker on the mountain, it is recommended that you join the Mountain Club of Malawi (see www.mcm. org.mw) and have access to their organised trips, socials and wonderfully equipped stores at each hut on the mountain. Emergency services: Should there be a need to organise a rescue this can be done at a cost. A Mulanje Rescue Team exists. Information and Bookings: Is available as a complimentary service to visitors from InfoMulanje, a joint venture of the Tourism Association of Mount Mulanje, the Ministry of Tourism and the Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust. for more info: email:infomulanje@sdnp.org.mw / infomulanje@mountmulanje.org.mw
